Pressure canner

Pressure canner

Several weeks back I purchased some canning jars from the nicest couple. After I got home I almost kicked myself because I meant to ask if they had a pressure canner they might want to sell. Fortunately I had their email and sent that request off right away. Jackpot! She did! All she wanted was some jam because she doesn’t can much anymore. I am so Blessed. This is an original Montgomery Ward pressure canner. I am so excited and blessed to have this. I can’t wait to try it out. Now I have to find a propane to fit the propane burner my parents brought home from Japan, when I was 2 years old! They don’t make things like they used to now a days. I am not sure I can get the burner going due to the directions being in Japanese. I will give it a go though.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

It is not silly for a man to know how to can! You have to know how to cook and do laundry don’t you? Many men are chefs and I am sure they know how to can. It is a ton of fun! What is a muscodine? What does it taste like? I will trade you jams when you are done. Can’t wait to try it.! And Yes…God is good! All the time!

Check the seal on the canner before you fill it with jars and water or increase the pressure. If the seal isn’t strong and supple it can shoot steam all over and really make a mess. Also look to see if there is a safety plug on it anywhere and that it is complete. You may be able to get information on the machine from the internet, though Sears has been none too helpful about my finding a replacement part for my old vacuum cleaner. Best wishes on this endeavor!
