chickens, dotting the landscape
We are in the throes of getting ready for my Mom to visit. Vacation Bible school is half over and Sam’s dental surgery is looming over us. In all the stress of everything happening at once I can get really overwhelmed. Tonight is one of those nights. We are “Mom” cleaning and I am getting tired and irritable. Then I look up and see my chickens dotting the landscape and five hummingbirds at the feeder.

Ahhhh, all is right with the world. They are so much fun to watch. My big white rooster is crowing up a storm. He will even talk to me as long as I am not too close. Gosh he thinks he is hot stuff, and actually I have to agree.
Y’all come back now!

About the author
I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years.
We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden.
We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well.
I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
How did your son’s surgery go? My little girl had double-infusion and a prescription for five days of oral meds from “her hero” at Monroe Carrell Hospital (Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital), and then saw Dr. Shaik two days later. Her procedure went pretty well, and though she can feel the spaces in her mouth, they don’t show and will close up as she grows. I believe I told you some of this stuff. I do hope your child’s surgery was as successful.
My aunt and uncle will be in town this weekend for a family event with relations who are not mine. But they expressed an interest in seeing us. Nice, since they were unable to attend my mother’s funeral a couple of weeks ago. But we have a meeting tomorrow (Saturday) and on Sundays my husband does a two-hour spoken word program. There is music, too, but mostly it’s on the writings.
This morning I got a call from the post office that the hatching eggs I ordered had arrived. I drove down and got them. Perfect, tiny eggs! This is my first attempt to incubate any eggs, and I’ve gotten so many contradictory sets of information, I just have great doubts. I don’t want to harm these tiny living things.
Sounds like you are having a very busy summer!
I love reading about the farm and especially the updates on the chickens.
Your garlic looks fabulous! I love using garlic in my cooking, especially when it’s roasted.
Take care. -K
