new shelves

new shelves

My parents got Quinn these shelves for his birthday/father’s day. They are a lot nicer than we even realized. Quinn wanted to get the garage organized so he has been building them as he has time when he is not working. He got these built and wanted to set up a “store” for my canned goods in the garage, along side my work center. These were placed this weekend so the boys and I started to organize them.

We had to unbox the jams and label what didn’t have a label. Then we had to take the rings off. You don’t really want to store your canned goods with the rings on the jars. Then they had fun organizing the jars.

Here we are, all organized. For those of you who know me a little too well, take a good long look. It may be the last time they look so good.

Jar rims handy

Jar rims handy

Suzanne (Chickens in the Road), who writes one of the blogs that I follow, shared a good trick about storing the rims to the jars. She took an old clothes line and tied one of the rims on at the end and then threaded the rest on the line. I used an old piece of twine that came off of a hay bale for the small rims and a piece of jute for the bigger rims, just because that is what I had. I almost took one of my husband’s bungee cords but then thought better of it. It works perfect with the twine and it’s more frugal.

This was fun!

We even had a ton of fun doing it. Who knew?

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

HAHAHAHAHA. I know my Mother is laughing twice as hard. If there are organizational classes to be had I am the one that needs to be taking them. Jacob is actually the one who organized it for me. I think he may be the brains behind this whole venture.

Thanks so much. I am glad you liked the jams. I have pear butter, pear preserves, spiced pear preserves, pear honey, and pumpkin butter. The pear honey is divine but the spiced pear is my favorite, kind of like a mild mince meat pie. Yumm-O.
