Hoop House modifications

new wheels

new wheels

Quinn worked all morning on revamping the hoop house. We had wheels on it before but they did not clear the ground enough to not need help moving it. I have needed some one at the back with the hand truck lifting up while I lift up in the front to pull it to fresh pasture. So, today Quinn took those wheels off and got new axles so that I can take the wheels off if I need to after I have moved it to fresh ground.

Quinn also revamped the pulling device. I was using a rubber bungee cord so he got me some chain with a piece of wood in the middle. I think it will work great because there will not be any give when I go to pull now.

Samuel’s chickens are doing great and growing fast. They are almost 2 weeks old and some have tail feathers already and some are completely feathered out on their wings. They don’t seem to eat as much as fast as my chicks did and that is a good thing.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

Yes the Turkens will always have naked necks. Samuel’s peeps are called Black Stars. They are a cross between a Barred Rock and a Rhode Island Red. Talk to you soon.

    Hi Elaine,
Will try to call after David leaves tonight and I have some free time. He leaves around 4:30.
The hoop house looks wonderful and taking off the wheels is great for preditors!
I noticed that the turkins still don’t have feathers on their necks, will that always be the case? Grandma wants to know what kind of chickens Samuel has. Love ya, MOM
