The bad part about vacation is trying to play catch up after you get back. I was hoping to get to this days ago, sorry, but God’s bounty has been so plentiful. I have been canning, shelling, drying and freezing since we got back. I will try to remember all the fun stuff we did.

The Sunday we arrived, Oh My Goodness has it been a week already?, we grilled out at the cabin with my parents. It was so nice to cook with them. The next day we went to Anna Ruby Falls.

This falls is fed by an underground stream and rainwater. It is so beautiful the picture does not do it justice.

We saw a ton of interesting things. We saw a Banded Water Snake outside the visitors center.

and a few millipedes along the trail. This one has a cobweb on his face.

There are more pictures than there is room for in this blog but I did get one of the family. I am so proud of my mom. She has a very hard time walking and was going to try the walk to the falls. It was only .4 mile walk but it was all uphill on a pretty good incline. We left her about 1/4 of the way up. Well, she got tired of waiting for us so she continued her climb at her own pace and almost made it the whole way! That was such a nice surprise to find her still climbing while we were on our descent.

After the hike we went to lunch and then Quinn and the boys and I went tubing on the river. The water was really low and there were a ton of people. I was only on the tube for a little while before I was ejected. Because the river was so low there was a part where the rocks were pretty prevalent and I got caught between two rocks and they dumped me out. I didn’t feel too bad because it happened to the guy behind me as well. The water was cold. I am sure everyone is grateful that I don’t have any pictures of that. That is a picture no one should have to see.

After tubing we went back and got cleaned up for dinner. Dad took us to a really nice German restaurant called the Hoffbrauhaus. We had a great time and Mom ordered he Crepes Suzettes for dessert.

Yummo. The boys were like a pack of wolves on that dessert. Every time my mom would cut a bite off Samuel would steal it. Very comical considering that Samuel is the child that doesn’t eat.

We had such a great time in Helen. The boys swam in the pool and fished on Skylake. Quinn shopped in Helen and Mom and Dad went to the pottery museum. Tons of fun but we are glad to be home.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
