Happy Easter!

I hope all of you rejoiced in our risen Savior Jesus Christ this morning.

The music was beautiful at church this morning. The boys sang with the children’s choir and did a fabulous job.

After church I was able to spend some bonding time with my peeps for a change. They are growing so much. I was able to take a stool into the coop and hang out and even got some to sit on my lap for a time. It is supposed to rain the next 3 days so I left them in the barn for now. Samuel is getting his 4-H peeps on Thursday morning so the pool has to come out of the barn by Wed.

Later the boys searched for plastic eggs and then created their own scavenger hunt while the real eggs were boiling. After the eggs were done the boys got all crafty and decorated them. They did a beautiful job.

Quinn also helped me get my row of cucumbers and peas in the ground. I am late in getting everything in the garden this year and I am very discouraged with the soil consistency. I wish I had had the time to plant the very day that Guy came to plow it for me.

Since that time we have had several days of rain and even snow. I am hoping that with the new rain that’s coming it will sprout everything I have planted. I still want to get corn, beans and squash in the ground.

I have always wanted to do a Three sisters garden so I think I will experiment this year. The idea is for the corn stalks to support the beans and the zucchini squash to shade the roots of the beans. I have to wait until the rains stop and the ground dries before I can try that.

I also managed to plant 3 Roma tomatoes. A far cry from last years tomato crop.

I planted Amish Paste tomatoes from seed and I did save back some seed that I was able to find after the move, but when the little sprout came up (in the barn) a mouse ate the tops off them. So, I got the genius idea to take my house cat and set him up in the barn for a couple of days. The jerk used my seedling tray as a litter box instead of catching the mouse. Ugh. I had to buy tomato plants this year.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
