Glad to be home

My boys were at a cabin in Helen, Ga for the week with my parents.

Cabin?

Cabin?

I know…It wasn’t the kind of ‘cabin’ I was expecting, but then my parents are not ones for “roughing it”. This ‘cabin’ will sleep 11. The kitchen was amazing, big and fully stocked with all the appliances.

I will post more tomorrow on all the activities that Quinn and I did when we joined them for two days, but one of the places my Mom and Quinn and I went to was a granary.

Funnel Cake

Funnel Cake

It was called Nora Mill Granary,Inc. I wanted to get some wheat berries to try to make some whole wheat flour in my Vita Mix. While we were there I saw some Funnel Cake Mix. Come on now….you didn’t expect me to pass that up did you? Well, I made funnel cakes for dessert after dinner tonight.

What funnel cake?

What funnel cake?

I am pretty sure they hated it. Jacob can now tell me that that is sarcasm. My Dad uses sarcasm a lot and Jacob really picked up on it this trip. Very funny. I will post more stories tomorrow.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

Are you sure everyone liked it or just you and Quinn? It was a fun time together! Love ya, MOM

Can you now make funnel cake without using the pre-packaged mix? I suspect it’s more a question of technique than anything else.

Our new chicken house is up, not at all what I’d dreamed of, and there are eggs in the incubator. We’re hoping for live hatch in the coming week. Do you have suggestions for brooding the new chicks? I got a big, new plastic storage box and a red lightbulb and chick food. but don’t know how to properly heat the space so they will thrive.

Deer or something have eaten up the tomatoes and lots more. I find evidence of visits from some very large birds near the shed. Wild turkey? Buzzard?
