Fresh start

Posted By on February 11, 2013

It has been a long time since I have blogged. It is hard to believe how much has happened. It didn’t really feel like things were happening at the time or I didn’t have anytime to blog about them. I was very involved in a local farmers market last summer which I hope to continue this summer. The egg business and the canned goods and soap did very well. I am hoping to add a few items from the garden in the mix as well. All of the goats are bred again this year except (of course) Yoo Hoo. My first babies are due in as early as 4 weeks.

We are slowly but surely making improvements to the farm. It was practically perfect when we moved here but things wear out. Today we had a new walkway and stairs put in.

Removing the bricks

The bricks on the walkway have always been uneven so we replaced them with concrete.

Ready for concrete

We also had the stairs removed and went with concrete. We will replace the new hand rails very soon.
We also took this opportunity to improve the drainage in the barn yard.

Addition to the barn

Everytime it rained I had to go out to the barn to re-dig a trench so that the runoff did not go through the barn. So now I have my own drainage ditch. I hope it was worth it, but we figured if we had a truck of concrete coming out any way….why not?!

Here is the finished view of the front steps.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
