Day at the Fair

Posted By on September 5, 2009

Today was the day we had all been waiting for, The Chick Show! Samuel’s chicks showed well. He got a Blue Award. A very nice couple bought his chicks at the auction for $12 each! That is a very good price considering the Grand Champion chicks sold for $15. I will put a picture in later as I forgot to bring my camera. A friend of mine took pictures for me.

After the Chick Show was the Pet Fair. Samuel entered Bullet as a pet and he won a First for the “largest pet”, Second for “most unusual” and Third for “longest tail”.

Samuel entered my Light Brahma Rooster for his farm animal. He got 2 second places and 3 third places. I wish I had written them down but it all happened so fast. Hopefully when we go back to pick up the prize money they will be able to tell us the categories.

Jacob cleaned up at the pet fair. Bullet was entered into the “pet” portion of the competition and I know he won First for “largest” and “longest tail” and got Second for the “most unusual”. He won other awards but again I can’t remember for what.

Jacob entered my yellow Turken in the farm animal portion of the pet fair. It was just Jacob and another boy with a horse for that so the ribbons were just flying. He received First or Second in every category. He was so pleased with all his ribbons and then he realized the there were money values attached to all those ribbons. He made a nice chunk of change in an hour.

We go tomorrow to claim our prize money. While we were waiting for the pet fair to start I checked out the jams and jellies that I entered. I didn’t win anything so my kids are the big winners of this fair. There is always next year.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

I’m surprised y’all didn’t enter Roscoe as the “world’s laziest dog” or something. I’m sure he would have won! ha ha
