Crazy Day

Posted By on August 4, 2009

Well, today was one of those days. I woke up at the same time but decided I needed coffee before heading out to the chickens. Boy am I glad, otherwise I never would have had my coffee. When I went out to the chickens something didn’t look right with the first coop and then the second really didn’t look right. I held my breath that they were all still there.

They were miraculously all still there. The damage to the first coop wasn’t as bad as the second coop. That tarp was completely removed and there were no grommets on one side that were even left. I am assuming that it was a dog or 10 that did this damage but I didn’t see them. We decided to move the coops to a location closer to the house so that we might hear when an attack is going on during the night.

It was so hot and humid today. I was dripping wet just doing the morning chores and then I had the hard job of repairing and moving the coops to a new area. Quinn helped so much with the moving and installing the new tarps.

Even after their scary start to the day the hens still layed a bunch of eggs. Jacob loves to check to see what they have done and has gotten skillful in carrying a bunch of eggs.

So that brings us to this evening. We tucked the chickens in in their new location but then heard about a storm warning heading our way. I didn’t think we had anything to worry about because we had brand new tarps on the coops. Well, I can hear God chuckling when he hears my plans but this is ridiculous. The storm blew through just as the sun set, and boy do I mean blew. One of the tarps held but the little chicks lost two grommets on their brand new heavy duty tarp. Urgh.

It has been a very long day and I still have three loads of laundry to fold before I can go to bed. Literally, they are on the bed. Good night all.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
