County Fair

Well, it is official, I am definitely country now. We all went up to the Fairgrounds this afternoon to enter some of my canned goods into the county fair! I have entered my Spaghetti Sauce, Blackberry Jam, Peach Jam, Pumpkin Butter and Pear Honey. I have never done anything like this before in my life so it is kind of a thrill. The prize money is very minimal (three whole dollars) but it’s exciting that it might be possible to win something.

Samuel will take 6 of his chicks on Saturday and they will be judged and then auctioned to pay for next year’s program’s chickens. There is also a Pet Show after the auction. I thought it might be fun to have Jacob enter that, since he has kind of been left out of the whole process, except for the chicken that his brother so generously gave him. We found out that he can not only enter Bullet in the Pet Show but he can also enter a chicken into the “Farm Pet” Show. So Samuel will enter Roscoe and a chicken (he wants to take Spartacus), and Jacob will take Bullet and the Light Brahma rooster.

Very exciting! We will keep you posted.

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

    Ooh, can you share your spaghetti sauce recipe? I have yet to make a spaghetti sauce that I like.
