Chicks

We had a hard day here yesterday.
Among our chicks we got a Golden Polish for our free and exotic chick and I have been watching him for 2 days thinking there was something not right. Well, I was correct. I thought that he might bounce back when I saw him drinking on his own but yesterday he was only standing with his head hung low. I set up a hospital box for him but carried him in my bra most of the day for warmth. Some of you know I could heat a small country, so I thought I would be similar to the temp of a mother hen. I kept him hydrated throughout the day but to no avail. He finally died shortly before midnight.
On a brighter note the other peeps are raring to go. The first chick to scratch was on Wed. afternoon. It was so cute to see him scratch through the litter… kind of like seeing him take his first steps.
Most of them have half of their wing feathers coming in and I even see a few tail feathers coming in. I have several Light Brahmas and they are later to develop. Just the tips of their wings are starting to come in. It is so much fun to have my morning time watching them flit about. This morning there was a lady bug attracted to the heat lamp and it scared them when it was flying around. Silly chickies.
Play time is over as it is Saturday and I have lots of dogs coming to get beautified today.
Y’all come back now.
*grin* yep, that’s my Elaine… precious and amusing at the same time!
sorry about the loss, but I am beginning to think you are going to have way too much fun with those chickens!
