Chicks out for a walk

Posted By on March 18, 2009

This morning the boys and I got up early to go to the Ben Roy Science Show.  It was very cool.  We saw the Tesla Coil, a Hydrogen flair, a glow stick made and a ping pong ball shoot through a soda can.  The boys love science and the cool things you can do.  We also saw Mr. Roy blow up a balloon and then pour liquid nitrogen over top and we were able to watch it shrivel up into a frozen flat blob.  When he took it out we watch it re-inflate right before our eyes.  Very cool how small an oxygen atom can move so slowly that you think it is not there….until it warms up.  I guess I had some fun today too.

When we got home today it was warm enough to let the chickens outside in their pen.  I let them outside yesterday in the pen that Julie and I made but they were able to slip through the 2″chicken wire that made up half the pen.   So today when we got home from the show I went looking in the barn to see what I could use instead.

Voila!  I had a brand new roll of garden netting.

Yea!  So I took down the old and put up the new and added a few more posts to give them more area.  It was much more relaxing for me to watch them knowing they were not going to go “walkabout”.  Yesterday was quite the calamity with us chasing chickens back into the pen and all around the yard.  Very stressful for the chicks and for me.

Bullet the Border Collie was more than happy to lend a hand in keeping them where they should be.  Always on guard to keep things where they need to be!

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
