Well we finally got them out of the house! I had a lot of grooming today so they didn’t actually get out until about 2:30pm. I was glad Quinn waited for me to be done. I had 6 dogs today! yea!

Samuel moved the new feeder and water container out to the coop and filled them appropriately. After I got one perch installed we loaded them all outside one last time. They didn’t get as many “walks” as the other set but they got a few so they were happy to see all the fresh grass and this time with shade. They were scratching and peeping when I left them.

I don’t know if Bullet is excited now or torn. Now he has another set to keep an eye on and the coops are on opposite sides of the house. He will be one busy and tired pooch, but….he is on the case.

We need to get the other perches installed eventually and I also need to make nesting boxes for this set. We were blessed with nesting boxes from a neighbor for the last set but I need to dust off my carpentry skills for this set.

We have a busy day at church tomorrow but I am definately going to enjoy the rest on the Lord’s day. I even made a post today for tomorrow. I hope it works the way I plan. Have a blessed Sunday!

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

I’ve had good results using molded plastic cat litter pans for nest boxes. They’re easy to clean and to change filler, don’t hold bugs. The chooks seem pretty happy to use them, too, and the edges of the covered kind discourage roosting. We shred paper for mulch, and this makes a good, absorbent, clean nest fill material for the hens.
