My peeps are two weeks old!  They are really getting strong!  One flew out of the pool when we were trying to catch them for a photo op.  The last time I had chicks I only had 6 of them so they got used to being caught for holding.  One of them preferred to ride on my shoulder.  This go round there are so many and I was worried about stress killing them early on, we just can’t hold them too much with out a lot of fuss.  They are fun to watch play tag with a piece of wood shaving and now they are flying!  We had better get that hoop house built but they still need the warmth for at least another 2 weeks.  Yikes.  We are going to have to figure out a way to keep them in the pool (They are in an old baby pool with TV boxes surrounding as a draft guard.).  Almost all of them have their tail feathers now.  The yellow chicks look to be the slowest to develop.  They are probably Buff Orpingtons.  I know I have White Rocks and they seem to develop the fastest so I doubt the yellow ones are Buff Rocks.  So the rest have most of their wings feathered out and tail feathers are starting.  In the center of the photo is a Turken chicken.  They are called Naked Necks.  They are very funny looking.  I have 3, two blacks and one yellow.   He is bowing his head so you can see his neck.

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
