One, Is the loneliest number

admin | February 13, 2010

With the great incubation experiment over I can honestly say that I have learned a lot! After consulting with books, friends, and the guy at the feed store, I now know way more than I thought there was to know about hatching eggs. God knows it is best to have a [...]

The chicks

admin | February 8, 2010

Well, the chicks were supposed to hatch on friday. I had a very hard time achieving enough humidity. I was able to boost it a little and for a short time with small jars of boiling water to produce steam. I dreaded emptying the incubator so I put it off until after [...]

Fencing is almost complete

admin | February 3, 2010

The fencing is going up! The chickens are a little confused how some are on one side of the fence and some are on the other.
The fence is up all the way down the hill and in the woods. After I took the picture I noticed the beautiful valley all covered with snow [...]

I was right!

admin | January 28, 2010

I was worried that the hens were laying in the woods. Well….I was right!
Sure enough. We found an egg yesterday and today in this location. I guess a kindling pile gives you enough protection.
Y’all come back now!

Best Dog in the World

admin | January 27, 2010

This is the best dog.
I have two roosters who are soon to leave this farm. My most pretty rooster, Adonis, has turned bad. He has taken to attacking the boys and this morning he went after me. Wonder Dog Bullet stepped in and saved my life. He started going after Adonis to [...]

Brooding Pen

admin | January 26, 2010

Joe and Mike were at the farm Saturday fixing my brooding pen. With eggs in the incubator I needed to get moving on the pen in the barn so we didn’t have them in the garage.
This is so cool because it is adaptable. There is a panel on the side closest to the [...]

Turkeys

admin | January 22, 2010

When we moved here a year ago we would have a visit from a flock of wild turkeys almost once a week. We noticed a few months ago that we had not seen the turkeys and wondered if it was due to Bullet.
I am happy to report that the turkeys came [...]

Ready to hatch some peeps

admin | January 16, 2010

The boys and I fired up the incubator yesterday. We loaded it up with 41 eggs. I have never hatched chicks before so I don’t really know what I am doing…shocking I know.
They are tucked in and will hatch in about 3 weeks barring a power outage.
Y’all come back now!

Barn is complete!

admin | January 7, 2010

This is actually really late in being posted. The barn was finished last year..hehehe. The last day of the year that is. It is so beautiful and my neighbors Joe and Mike did a fantastic job of listening to what I wanted and designing it for me.
There are a few final [...]

Anticipation

admin | December 3, 2009

It has been gray and cold here. The chickens found a nice perch to sit and watch the excitement. It looks like my barn is really starting to happen. I have been talking about this barn for months now to the people closest to me. Now I finally get to [...]
