With the great incubation experiment over I can honestly say that I have learned a lot! After consulting with books, friends, and the guy at the feed store, I now know way more than I thought there was to know about hatching eggs. God knows it is best to have a [...]

Well, the chicks were supposed to hatch on friday. I had a very hard time achieving enough humidity. I was able to boost it a little and for a short time with small jars of boiling water to produce steam. I dreaded emptying the incubator so I put it off until after [...]

The fencing is going up! The chickens are a little confused how some are on one side of the fence and some are on the other.
The fence is up all the way down the hill and in the woods. After I took the picture I noticed the beautiful valley all covered with snow [...]

I was worried that the hens were laying in the woods. Well….I was right!

The boys and I fired up the incubator yesterday. We loaded it up with 41 eggs. I have never hatched chicks before so I don’t really know what I am doing…shocking I know.
They are tucked in and will hatch in about 3 weeks barring a power outage.
Y’all come back now!

This is actually really late in being posted. The barn was finished last year..hehehe. The last day of the year that is. It is so beautiful and my neighbors Joe and Mike did a fantastic job of listening to what I wanted and designing it for me.
There are a few final [...]

It has been gray and cold here. The chickens found a nice perch to sit and watch the excitement. It looks like my barn is really starting to happen. I have been talking about this barn for months now to the people closest to me. Now I finally get to [...]
