Busy week

Posted By on July 18, 2009

Well, hopefully we will have a lazy Sunday and bask in the glory of all the Lord’s blessings. We have been so busy this week. Quinn has been at his real job way too much lately. He was supposed to be off today but could not pass up the opportunity of overtime. After I was done grooming the boys and I went up to the flea market on 41 to see what all was there. Save one cool toy there was not much of interest to us there today.

Peaches

The peaches we picked at the orchard were starting to really get ripe and were so delicious I tried to make….you guessed it! Jam.

I made 4 batches of peach jam and still have at least 2 more to go. I have also made two cobblers with those peaches.

I guess Heaven Scent Farms is now in the jam business. I have 8oz. jelly jars for $4.50 or Pint jars for $8 in Peach and Blackberry. Just drop me a line if you would like a jar…or three.

We got another egg from Victoria this afternoon and one of the little black hens looked like she was entertaining the idea. Hopefully we will be in the egg business soon. I know all of my grooming clients and neighbors cannot wait for farm fresh eggs. I hope they are serious because we are about to be covered up in eggs.

Our Border Collie, Bullet, is still on restriction from the chickens due to a “minor misunderstanding”, to hear him tell it. I had let the chickens out that afternoon to forage for bugs and one of my clients was there picking up his crew. I heard a squabble and looked over to see Bullet with a little black hen in his mouth! I could not believe it! We are working on aversion therapy right now and it is working successfully at the moment. Hopefully it will continue to be successful. He claims he is innocent and that she jumped into his mouth but I am not buying it.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
