Busy day on the Farm

Posted By on April 17, 2009

Wow it has been another busy day on the farm. We were up early and I saw that the weather forecast was ideal for finally getting the big chicks out of the barn and onto pasture.

The boys helped so much in the process. Bullet even got in the action. Even though the hoop house is movable I still had to get the chicks out so I could move it across the driveway and on to pasture.

Jacob was the gatekeeper while Samuel and I rounded up the hens and then moved the house to pasture. After we got the house moved we still had to move the hens again into the house. It was exhausting for me but glad that it is done. Just in time too. My clients showed up just as we got finished.

After I got a few dogs groomed I was able to get a dozen tomato plants planted and almost a dozen Anaheim peppers planted.

My neighbor, Guy, gave me the pepper plants. I am preparing the rest of the garden to plant 4 separate Three Sisters gardens. I hope it works and I am not too late getting everything in the ground. As soon as I get enough compost worked into the soil I will plant the corn and then in two weeks be able to plant the beans and then in another two weeks the zucchini.

Bullet, at your service!

Bullet has been getting a bad rap lately but he was very helpfull today when we had a few escapees. He was able to steer them to us so that we could catch them. I think he honestly thinks that they are his job. It is nice to know you can count on him and not fear him eating them like most dogs.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
