Blustery Day

Posted By on February 11, 2009

We are having quite the wind today.  The weather was simply gorgeous  over the weekend and we were out walking the property.  I am not the family historian so of course I forgot the camera.  That is going to be the hardest thing for me is remembering the camera.  We saw a fence on the property line on the north side of the property but none on the south.  It was in the 70′s and sunny.  Today we are having weather warnings for wind and possibly small hail.  Sounds like a good day to make soap…or clear out the garage for the chickens whose arrival is eminent.

I made a beautiful batch of Lily of the Valley soap yesterday.  That is one of the few flowery smells I have liked.  It is not overwhelming and fresh and clean.  After that the boys and I went to town to run a few errands.  I went to Lowes with my chicken coop plans and my husband had told me to take them to the contractors desk and they would be able to give me a print out of the cost.  Amazingly I didn’t believe him but did it anyway and low and behold he was right! Ten minutes later I have a list of materials and their cost!  I am excited and nervous about this as I am not a carpenter.  I built the last coop we had but it was real small and “cattywampus”.  I did not have any plans for that one.  Maybe with directions I will have better luck.  I am hoping to enlist some help from friends and get this done in a weekend.  We will see, and I will have to remember my camera for that.  Ya’ll come back now.

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
