Barn is complete!

Posted By on January 7, 2010

This is actually really late in being posted. The barn was finished last year..hehehe. The last day of the year that is. It is so beautiful and my neighbors Joe and Mike did a fantastic job of listening to what I wanted and designing it for me.

There are a few final touches I need to make to the rooms but the structure is complete.

The General Store

The General Store

The General Store is where I will put a refrigerator to store eggs and eventually goat milk. I will also put up shelves for my jams, pickles and soaps and anything else I can dream up…perhaps…garlic powder?

A wonderful lady suggested that I put a window from the milking room over looking the hospital/birthing stall. That way I could have my heater plugged in and keep an eye on the action and leave her in peace.

The Aviary

The Aviary

Could this be the Taj Mahal for chickens? It is so awesome. Quinn is calling it the “Chick Chalet”. I only have 35 birds now but I have an incubator and I am not afraid to use it.

The goat shed

The goat shed

This will be the goat shed. It looks pretty lonely right now but it will be hopping by spring. I have one pregnant doe on order and I have to pick out my other pregnant doe. Stitches is the one I have picked out and she has been bred and will kid in May. Whoopee! Fencing will have to be installed but I am working on it. Hard to believe that my dream is so going to be reality.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

    Lezlee,
Thanks so much for the comment. We love our new barn. My neighbor did a beautiful custom job. He will be putting up the fencing tomorrow. I would love to meet you someday. You are welcome to come to the farm anytime. We are hatching chicks on Friday!

I love it! It looks terrific! We belong to the mthea e-mail group and that’s how I found your website. We live 30 minutes south of Franklin in Chapel Hill. We moved out here 5 years ago. We have 10 acres and it’s fenced but no barn. I really like your barn. Maybe one day we can meet in person. Beautiful blog!

It sure is cold here but it is the wind chill that will get you. Even with the heat lamps the water is still freezing. Not freezing solid anymore but partially frozen. My poor Turkens…I am afraid they will have frost bite. One has no feathers on her neck and the other has none on her back and most of her neck. Brrrr.

I know why you have that heat lamp on, I just toted water to chickens.
    It is cold out there!

That is truly amazing! I am so happy for you! That is a mighty nice “chick chalet” – too funny! Hopefully we can see it in person one day soon.

Looks great! Glad to see you have the heat lamps on for the Chicks…it really looks cold. If it is this cold here, it must be FREEZING there! Love ya!

Holy Cow! Wow Elaine. I am soooo happy for you (and Quinkers). The barn is awesome! Only question is…. is there a ‘sister-in-law’ quarters in there somewhere?
