Attitude of gratitude

Posted By on February 9, 2012

We have had a very mild winter so I have had very little down time. I was grumbling about this just the other day. Well my mother sent me a devotional that I could really relate to. It is from Max Lucado. Now, I am not really a Max Lucado fan but I like most of what he writes about. Today was about Everyday Blessings.

Max Lucado Daily: Oh Boy—My Favorite!

Oh Boy—My Favorite!

“Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 2:1”

Imagine with me, the diary of a dog.

8:00 a.m.— Oh boy! Dog food—my favorite!
9:40 a.m.— Oh boy! A walk—my favorite!
And so it goes—Oh boy!—my favorite!

On the other hand consider the cat!

Day 283 of my captivity. While they dine lavishly on fresh meat, I’m forced to eat dry cereal. I’m sustained by the mild satisfaction I derive from ruining a few pieces of furniture.

One grateful, the other grumpy. Same house. Same master. Yet two entirely different attitudes.

So which diary reads more like yours?

Gratitude! It’s the firstborn child of grace, the appropriate response of the blessed. Immerse yourself in the curriculum of grace! It’s so easy to be distracted. So easy to be ungrateful!

Oh boy! My favorite! It’s a day changer!

Choose to make every day—a great day.

This spoke to me today not only because it was an animal reference that I could relate to but also how I was living my glorious life. I would like to think I am a dog but I am ever reminded of the cat in me. I am always telling my boys to have and “attitude of gratitude” but do I live that for them to model?

Oh I have so much work to do….dang it
work! Oh boy! My favorite!

Y’all come back now.

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

Why doesn’t Mom send me devotionals

I could use some of that doggy attitude. “Oh boy, moving to Leesburg! My favorite!”
