Time with his peeps

Time with his peeps

The best part about spaghetti for dinner is giving the leftovers to the chickens. Tonight Quinn took the time to feed them “worms” and as a bonus we also had cheese ravioli.

Happily eating

Happily eating

It is so much fun to watch them eat. I also learned from my friend at Providence Farms that my yellow roosters are not Orpingtons like I suspected. They are Buff Rocks. Now I know that most of you would not care if I thought they were a different breed but if I were to enter one in the fair, the country folk around here would tell me to go back to the city. Rocks have yellow legs and Orpingtons have pinkish grey legs. That is how Mollie knew what I had. She is so smart and truly did save me from a most embarrassing moment. I also figured out in the process that what I thought were Speckled Sussex roosters are really Partridge Rocks. I didn’t really see the deep rust and green colors in Spartacus’ feathers. I suspect when he fully matures he will be very handsome.

Beautiful Buff Hen

I thought I would share my beautiful buff hen with you all. I think she is so pretty. She is looking for a name so if anybody out there can think of a name for her and her two handsome Buff Rock roosters just let me know. We seem to have a Greco-Roman theme going on for the boys so if anyone can tell me the name of twin blonde boys in Mythology or otherwise I would be grateful.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

I wish you were my neighbor too! The peeps in the picture on my Face book are actually Samuel’s chickens. They are almost as big though. After he takes six of his hens to the Fair in Sept. we can let his free range also. I am also glad that our children don’t grow up that fast as well. They grow up fast enough as it is. :)

haha, like my reply?…Baby Bryson sent it before I was done…
“the peeps” I mean, you turn your back for a brief moment, and they’re all grown up! Glad our children are not quite that fast… ;^)
    Wish I was your neighbor!

Only twins I am aware of are Romulus and Remus also, don’t know they were blond though.

How about Henlen of Troy? Wasn’t she some kind of Greek mythological figure whose face caused a 1000 ships to be launched?

I can’t think of names for the roosters although Sparticus for one of them comes to mind. But for the hen, how about Buffy? It’s not in your theme tho.

  6. MOM says:

Elaine, Remember Romulus and Remus, the twins raised by a wolf? Now wouldn’t that be fitting considering all the trouble you are having with wild dogs? Can’t remember any blonde females right this moment but give me time. Spent the whole morning at the car place having my car serviced with oil/rotation/etc. Then had to get gas. An expensive oil change this time but will save buying new car. Love ya. Mom
