After the Storm

Well, it definitely has been an exciting 24hours. Yesterday we had 40 mph wind gusts but we only lost one tree that we know of. This tree was broken at about 6 feet up, but the top of the tree was wedged into the “Y” of a neighboring tree, so that it was leaning at about a 45 degree angle. These trees are about two hundred feet tall. So Quinn decided to go out today and take it all the way down so that it didn’t fall on a child. Great idea, however, the dogs also went out for the festivities and our new Border Collie, “Bullet”, did not get out of the way in time. He is fine. Got the wind knocked out of him. He is still at the vet getting support. Dr. F. assures me that there are no broken bones, but that his lungs are bruised and he has a pocket of air between his chest cavity and lungs. It was very frightening and surreal to hear that a tree fell on the dog. It took a moment to process the reality of the situation. My oldest, Samuel, is usually the one to send out the alarm. He came running in telling me that Bullet had to go to the vet. What? Why? ” He had a tree fall on him and is hurt.” What? Next thing I see is Quinn carrying a limp dog. Well, since I am still in PJ’s I leap into action. I was dressed as fast as a firefighter and grabbed my coat and wallet and off we go. Now since we just moved to this town I didn’t know exactly where the vet was but I had seen it, so we headed in that direction as fast as we could go. Bullet was still laying down on the seat at this point but soon began to get active enough that I wasn’t too worried. Quinn is another matter. The guilt and fear of the last 30 mins was racing around in his mind and the fact that we couldn’t find the vet was also disturbing. So we did the only thing we could do ,which was to drive the extra 30 mins to our old vet’s office. Praise God that it was Dr. F. who was on duty.

I would have called ahead but in the panic both Quinn and I forgot our phones. They started the dog on IV fluids and told us to go home and when he was stable they would X-ray him. He will probably spend the night at the vet’s tonight and be home sometime tomorrow. I am grateful that it wasn’t way worse a situation than it could have been. He was hit with the top of the tree and not the base of the tree. Dr. F. said that he shouldn’t chase sticks that big. Below is a picture of the boys sitting on the tree with our other dog Roscoe in the picture. Ya’ll come back now.
get to work boy!!!! ha ha ha!

Yes, I’m back and was appalled and impressed by the length of the tree that fell on Bullet! Glad to see the logo on line! You are getting there. Love ya!
Glad to hear that he is ok and that Dr. F was there. See you tomorrow.
