A Day with Friends

We had friends come to play today.  They were  out of school today because of spring break and they had been here to see the chicks the day they arrived here.  Boy, have they changed since then!

They are in their ugly teenage  stage right now and boy do they stink! The last time I had chickens I only had a few, so this is the most I have had at one time.  I am a little over whelmed with the smell and they are not as warm and cuddly as the last ones I had.  I guess it is the sheer number of them.

My friend Julie and I built them a “temporary” exercise yard.

Just trying to find the right wire was an adventure in itself.  We pieced together a small section of chicken wire and a roll of hardware cloth I bought for their hoop house.  I am hoping to move them outside for an hour or so so I can clean up the pool with fresh bedding before my family arrives in a couple of weeks.  Plus it will be good for them to get a change of scenery and on some fresh grass for a change.  It is kind of gray and damp today but tomorrow it is to be in the 70′s and sunny.  Yea!  It feels a bit like England here today.  Not that I have ever been to England but everyone says how gray and rainy it is there.

We all also took a hike to the creek.  Four kids, two adults and a dog.  We found another ford in the creek as well.  It was fun to share that with friends.

We are hoping we can actually get in the creek with bare feet this summer.  It would be quite refreshing on a hot day.  I still don’t understand the attraction of grabbing the biggest stick you can carry.  They had funwith the sticks in the flowing stream though.

I spent some more time with the chicks tonight and got a better photo op.  Enjoy!

Y’all come back now.

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.
