4-H

Posted By on November 2, 2010

Both boys are in 4-H this year. Because fourth grade is usually the entry level standard Jacob is a year younger than normal. Since he does a lot of 4th grade work we thought it would be really good for him. Jacob had to recite a poem from memory. He did a great job and was rewarded with a blue ribbon.

Samuel had to give a speech. He had a list of categories to choose from and he chose “My Hero and Why”. He gave a wonderful 3 minute speech about Lewis and Clark. He was inspired by a book that Grammy and G-Dad gave him when they took a trip on the 100th Anniversary of their expedition. I was so proud of him because he is the only one who had basically memorized his speech. He went up there with one 3×5 card with points from the speech he had written. All the speeches were wonderful and so very different.

Our 4-H club is going to have a great year this year! We have two 4th graders, four 5th graders, three 6th graders, one 7th, one 8th and one 9th graders in our club. We have a new youth leader and she is really getting them going strong.

Samuel also received a blue ribbon. I am very proud of my boys and I am so happy they are involved in this program. It challenges them and gives them experiences that they do no have at home.

Y’all come back now!

About the author

I am a work at home Mom of two of the best boys ever. I am a Nationally Certified Master Groomer and have been grooming out of my home for the last 12 years. We have recently moved to Greenbrier Tn on 27 acres. We are new to the "homesteading thing" but we are excited to learn. We hope to be filling our farm with many critters and a garden. We are homeschoolers so everything is a unit study to us. It has been fun to see the boys help Dad cut firewood. We will also be learning how to build a chicken coop in the near future as well. I have been making handcrafted soap lately as well and I am seeing an improvement in that business as well. It is all natural vegetable and goat milk based soaps. Can't wait to share this experience with everyone.

I never quite got what 4-H was for many years…I thought it was just about raising livestock?? and how would my kids do that, lol. Now I am hoping to look more into how we would be able to participate in 4H once we move back to Oregon (next summer, I hope)

Your boys look great giving their lil speeches–fantastic!

    Love ya,
    Sheri
